Swimming Pool Liner Tips

All above-ground swimming pools have liners that need to be replaced periodically. Some in-ground pools are made with a liner and some are not. Adding a liner to an old in-ground pool updates the look and can substitute for expensive repairs. Swimming pool liners are made of vinyl and are available in a wide variety of attractive patterns and in varying thicknesses, from 10-30 mils.

Above Ground Swimming Pool Liners

If your above ground swimming pool is more than ten years old, the liner probably needs replaced. Ask the vendor for specific instructions about how to measure your pool. Lift the top rail of the pool and see if the liner is inserted into a bead track, or if it overlaps the top of the pool and is held in place with clips.

Installation of a new swimming pool liner is a complicated job and you may want to hire a professional to do it. The water in the pool is what gives it shape, and if you completely drain the pool the sides could collapse and your pool would be damaged.

In Ground Swimming Pool Liners

In ground swimming pool liners always fit into a bead track. You'll need to contact the vendor for specific measuring instructions. In addition, if you are adding a liner to a new pool, check to see how to prepare the pool to receive it.

Again, installing the swimming pool liner is a job you might want to leave to a professional. Completely draining an in-ground pool can cause stress fractures from ground water pressure or soil pressure.

Replacing your swimming pool liner only has to be done once a decade or so, so it's worth making sure it's done right.
