Your First Honda Dirt Bike Race

Everybody has a first race. You have a new (or used) Honda dirt bike and you've been riding and practicing a lot and you are truly ready for your first race. Some things can only be learned by doing them, and dirt bike racing is one of those things. You won't really know how to race your Honda dirt bike until you've done it. This one is a learning experience, and here are five tips to help you learn as much as you can.

  1. Walk the track before the race: It's nice if you can get an experienced rider to go with you and talk you through what he or she sees. Look for obstacles, wet areas, narrow spots where riders will bunch up and areas that you will have difficulty with.
  2. Make your practice runs count: Try different approaches to curves, feel how your Honda dirt bike responds on the course, watch for things you didn't notice when you walked the track.
  3. Make a plan: Work out a plan for each segment of the race. It's harder to come up with strategies when you're riding your Honda dirt bike hard and fast and your adrenaline is pumping.
  4. Check, double check and triple check your gear: Scrutineers are there to make sure your Honda dirt bike is safe and it passes all inspections, and they can be very picky.
  5. Watch the experts - after you race: Of course, you've been watching advanced riders for a long time, but now you'll see them with a new eye. You've been through your first Honda dirt bike race, and you'll see things you've missed before.
