Cross Country Skiing
Cross country skiing is the sport of skiing over the countryside rather than on downhill runs. It may be the best outdoor winter sport there is, especially if you're a bit of an introvert or a romantic. Here's what to like about cross country skiing:
It's non-competitive. Of course, you can make it competitive; we all know people who can make sleeping competitive. Cross country skiing isn't inherently competitive, though; you can do your own thing at your own pace
You can do it alone or with friends. Cross country skiing doesn't attract big crowds and it's safe enough to do alone.
It takes minimal equipment. All you need for cross country skiing is a pair of long, skinny skis, bindings and boots and a pair of poles.
You can wear cute clothes. In cross country skiing, you don't go fast and you don't fall down much. That means you don't get wet and cold so you don't have to wear a big bulky Neoprene snowsuit; you can wear cute jeans and a sweater.
You get to enjoy natural beauty and quiet. Cross country skiing takes place off the beaten path and away from the madding crowds. You're outside in a natural environment, and nothing is quieter than snow falling in the country.
It's romantic. Imagine cross country skiing with someone you're in love with when it's snowing, or at night under a full moon. There aren't many scenes more romantic than that.
Of course, cross country skiing is also fun and great exercise. There are a lot of reasons to give it a try.
