ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM ANEMIA

Many women suffer from anemia and are not aware of it. Anemia is the lack of hemoglobin in the blood stream. Hemoglobin helps red blood cells carry oxygen through the body. Many women ignore the signs of anemia. This is easy to do because many of the signs of anemia can be caused by lack of sleep or stress (something most women know lots about). If you are experiencing fatigue, weakness, dizziness, cold feeling in your hands and feet, or irritability, you may be suffering from anemia. Other signs of anemia include low body temperature, pale skin, rapid heartbeat and chest pain, shortness of breath, headaches, and not poor performance at work or school.

By now you are beginning to wonder if you are anemic. These symptoms are a common occurrence in most women's lives. So how do you find out if you are anemic? The test for anemia is a very simple blood test. A health care provider will be able to order this test. If you test positive for anemia; then what?

Treatments for anemia vary. This is because there are many types of anemia. The most common type of anemia is Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA). The body requires iron to make hemoglobin. IDA can be caused by consistent heavy periods, ulcers or colon problems. It can also be caused by not having enough iron in your diet. Pregnant women often suffer from IDA. Changing your eating habits is a good way to start treating IDA. Iron can be found in ground beef, clams, sunflower seeds, cashews, baked potatoes with the skin on, spinach, and lentils.

There are several other forms of anemia each with their own unique treatment. If you are concerned you are suffering from anemia, see your doctor. You will be surprised at how much better you feel once treatment has begun.
