Game Cheats (Cheat Codes)
Quite frankly, I think game cheats are a copout! I don't allow them at my house. My children experience an unparalleled sense of accomplishment when they beat a game without game cheats. (I must say that this does not include "cheat codes" that are earned while playing a game. My children cannot share these with each other, however.) In my humble opinion game cheats and cheat codes contribute to a generation of wimps, children who grow into adults who expect life to be handed to them without hard work. Life does not come with cheat codes.
Game cheats and cheat codes are exactly as their name implies, cheats. What are we teaching our children? Cheat your way through life? Take the easy way out? Hard work isn't necessary or rewarding? I am sure many people are thinking "Take it easy, it's only a game." Indeed it is only a game, but may I remind you "Everything you do, you teach." Teaching it is OK to cheat by using and allowing the use of game cheats, isn't OK.
All that being said, I do understand the need to sit and relax and play something that is purely entertaining and not work. I understand that game cheats allow ease of game play and therefore a different level of relaxation. But I cannot understand how there is a sense of satisfaction in that. It seems to me that sense of relaxation must be compromised by the knowledge that you accomplished your goal by cheating.
Game cheats, cheat codes, I just don't understand.
