CARD GAMES

Bored? Try card games. Whether on-line, or on your table, most card games share some basic facts. The deck most often contains 52 cards, made up of 4 suits of 13 cards each. Occasionally, a card game will eliminate the low or high end of a suit and/or include Jokers. The exceptions to this rule are specialized children's card games and collectible card games.

Card games can be separated into many different genre or categories. For the purposes of this article we will discuss trick-taking card games, rummy style card games, and solitaire card games.

Trick-taking card games are played in a round. Each player, in turn, puts a card in play. Collectively, all cards in play in a round are called a trick. Usually the winner of the round collects and keeps the trick. Some players prefer to the lead the round, because the leader chooses the suit in play. Others players prefer to be last, because the last player in the round is reacting to, rather than predicting, the moves of the other players.

Rummy card games measure value from low to high, with Ace being low followed by 2,3,4,etc, ending with Jack, Queen, King. The object of rummy card games is to get rid of all the cards in your hand by creating a run or group of cards. A run is 3 or 4 cards in sequence, a group is 3 or 4 of the same value card.

Solitaire, also called patience, card games are single player games. There are many forms of solitaire. For the most part shuffled cards are dealt into a particular pattern and the player order them by suit, rank, or value through a series of moves.

Go grab that deck of cards from the drawer and have fun.
