Home Electronics

Home electronics account for most of the electricity used in the average American household. Are you aware that many home electronics use power even when they are turned off? That's right, they use that power to run the clock displays and remote controls. What can be done to keep your home electronics from robbing you blind? The same thing you do in many other aspects of your life. Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.

How many home electronics do you have in your house right now, and how many are you actually using? Now that you know all the TVs in your house are using electricity even when they are turned off, do you really need them all? Remember when you were a kid, you only had one TV in your home, and you managed. Consider giving one or more of your spare TVs to the local homeless shelter. Now you are reducing and re-using your home electronics. Look for the ENERGY STAR label when you purchase new home electronics. These products have been determined to require less electricity when on or off. Again, you will reduce waste and your electric bill.

These tips are not just for your spare television but all your home electronics i.e. gaming units, DVDs, and telephones too. Reducing the number of home electronics you have saves electricity, money and helps the environment.

Now what about recycling? Many parts of home electronics are recyclable. No need to keep old game units, TVs, or VCRs hidden in your shed or garage. Call your town's sanitation department and ask about recycling home electronics. They will be thrilled to hear from you.
