Should You Purchase A Digital Camera?
Digital Camera Technology Makes Strides
Digital cameras have been around for several years now. Besides being expensive, the first digital cameras were bulky, had limited memory size and features. Since that time, digital camera manufactures have invested much research and development time into adding function while decreasing cost, making quality digital cameras a viable option and competitor to the 35mm camera for personal photography.
The Ease of Digital Photography
Digital cameras are all but point and shoot devices. Most digital cameras have a window that not only let you see the image you are going to capture, but show you the after shot image, and let you decide on the spot if you want to keep it or not. Try that with film!
Other benefits found on most digital camera include :
- A pre-flash to help eliminate red-eye
- Easy zoom function for close-ups
- Reusable memory cards to hold your pictures
- Adjustable image quality
- Easy transfer of images to your PC
- Intuitive image touch-up software
Digital Cameras - Pixels vs. Price Range
While most digital cameras come with the same basic features, the biggest factor that dictates digital camera price is resolution and image size capability - measured in pixels. If you have already begun researching digital cameras or know someone who owns a digital camera, you are probably familiar with the feature description 3MP, 4MP or 5MP. The MP stands for mega pixels, which, to keep things simple, can be likened to computer memory. The higher the MP, the more capacity a digital camera has for taking higher resolution (more detailed) and larger photographs. The larger the available mega pixel count, the more flexibility you will have in selecting image size and detail, which also dictates total picture capacity. Currently, most consumer digital cameras range between 3-6 mega pixels.
