Zone Diet
What is the Zone Diet? I had no idea. I decided to research it. The Zone Diet is a program for balanced eating. It is not a weight loss program per se however it has been classified as a low carb diet. Those who advocate the Zone Diet would disagree with this assessment because percentage wise you eat more carbs than any other food group.
Percentage is what the Zone Diet is all about. Dr. Barry Sears, author of The Zone: Revolutionary Life Plan to Put Your Body in Total Balance for Permanent Weight Loss, teaches that balancing your food intake controls insulin production and consequently allows or encourages your body to burn more fat.
Dr. Sears recommends a ratio of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. This, he says, will bring your body into "The Zone". Dr. Sears believes that "silent inflammation" is the cause of many diseases. Using the Zone Diet can control the "silent inflammation" and improve your overall health.
The Zone Diet teaches portion control, a benefit for anyone trying to lose weight. The Zone Diet also teaches the dieter to reduce sugars and monitor food intake. These practices will benefit most Americans.
Critics of the Zone Diet believe dieters may lose weight to quickly in "The Zone". They report that meal planning on the Zone Diet is quite time consuming, leading to decrease compliance. Critics also complain there are not enough vegetables in the Zone Diet.
While the Zone Diet teaches valuable lessons toward healthier eating it may not be right for everyone. Discuss the Zone Diet with your doctor before proceeding.
