Lemonade Diet

Feeling run down and irritable? The Lemonade Diet may be what you are looking for. The Lemonade Diet, also called the Master Cleanse, is a cleansing fast first introduced by Stanley Burroughs and brought into broader use by Peter Glickman and his book Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days.

The Lemonade Diet is not a weight loss diet, it is meant to cleanse the body of toxins that build up over time due to our lifestyle. Weight loss will occur with the Lemonade Diet; however it is primarily water weight loss. Most experts agree that at least half of the weight lost on the Lemonade Diet will return when the individual resumes normal eating.

Advocates of the Lemonade Diet recommend the fast be maintained for 10-40 days. Users of the Lemonade Diet report feeling more energized, sleeping better and an overall feeling of better health. Some have even reported recovering from painful symptoms while on the Lemonade Diet. Opponents of the Lemonade Diet are obviously concerned with the poor nutrition of the diet and the low calorie intact (approximately 550 calories/day). Some negative affects reported are severe stomach cramping and headaches.

The Lemonade Diet consists of drinking homemade lemonade consisting of fresh squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup, and of course water. This mixture is consumed between 6 -12 times per day. Additionally, a sea salt water cleanse is consumed in the morning and a laxative tea is consumed at night. Nothing else (except prescription medication) may be taken internally during the fast.

The Lemonade Diet is not for everyone. As always before starting the Lemonade Diet consult a health care professional.
