Healthy Diet

I have been looking for a healthy diet for what seems like forever. Is there such a thing as a healthy diet? As I researched "diet" on the web I came up with some strange choices. Some want me to eat only cabbage soup or drink lemonade. Some want me to eat practically nothing for a few days and then resume normal eating. Have you ever had the stomach bug? You eat nothing for a couple of days while you are sick. You think "well at least I'm losing weight". Then BOOM the weight goes right back on. None of these choices seemed like a healthy diet to me.

There are some other popular choices that come up during a web search for diets. None of these seemed like a healthy diet to me either. All are very restrictive, practically eliminating one food group or another. Hasn't the country adopted a position on what a healthy diet is? In fact the United States Department of Agriculture goes to extensive measures to make sure everyone knows what belongs in a healthy diet.

The food pyramid is different from when I was a kid. It is a little more involved but it can be found on many packages in the grocery store and in many places on the web. It can't be that difficult to come up with a healthy diet. I changed my search. Instead of searching for diets, I searched for the food pyramid. Lygo.com (my new favorite search engine) brought me to the USDA web site. There I discovered how to create a healthy diet just for me.

At the USDA web site I filled out a form with a few facts about myself (nothing personal; age, weight, stuff like that) and the site gave me a customized food pyramid. In minutes I began a new healthy diet. I even searched for healthy diets for my kids. It seems to me I have found my healthy diet, whole grains, fruit, veggies, milk and meat; sound familiar? Well worth the try.
