Three Great Ways To Increase Self Employment Success
The advantages of self employment are endless. Let's face it. Who really wants to get up at the crack of dawn, fight two hours of traffic, and sit in a cubicle for eight hours just to get a paycheck that barely makes ends meet? Virtually no one. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that hundreds of self-employment ventures end in financial failure. There are, though, a few ways to increase your self-employment success.
First, if you intend to work from home, set up an area that you can dedicate to being your office area. Don't pay the bills there, don't let the kids play there, and don't spend your free time in that area. Make it feel like your office, even if it's just a corner of your laundry room, and you'll be more likely to treat it as an office.
Second, be sure to set up a work schedule for yourself. Maybe on Mondays you can dedicate eight to noon to your office, on Tuesdays you can spend afternoons in the office, and Wednesday through Friday can be typical working hours. The firmer your schedule, the more likely you are to truly treat your self employment venture as a real job. Moreover, it will help your clients to know when they might be able to reach you, and that alone will increase your chances of success.
Finally, get dressed each morning as if you're going to work. While sitting at the computer in your shorts may seem like a self employment advantage, most people who work from home say they feel more professional if they're dressed like they're headed to the office.
Self employment can be one of the greatest career moves you've ever made, but unless you make an effort to make it work, it is destined to failure.
